Ruddy Darter Sympetrum sanguineum

Very local and rare. Has been long present in Åland, where local and uncommon. In continental Finland the species breeds in Santahamina, Helsinki. There are also records from nearby shores and two consequentive records from Lohja. Large number of records from southern Finland in August 2007 indicate an invasion. It is not yet known whether this invasion leads to permanent populations elsewhere in Southern Finland.

Flight period: Unknown, observed July-September, peak in August.
