Small Pincertail Onychogomphus forcipatus

Dark gomphid with blue eyes, massive anal appendages and small yellowish markings. Local in southern and central Finland. Favours rocky rapids, rivulets and streams, but sometimes also on relatively slow-flowing rivers. Apparently can also breed on rocky beaches of large lakes?

Flight period: June-August

Male is very dark, and it's huge pincer-shaped anal appendages make identification very easy. Abdomen is longer and thinner than in other gomphids. Jukka Toivanen
